Amy Weckesser

Hi! I’m the Director of First Friends Child Development Center. I have over 25 years of experience as a developer, administrator and teacher in high quality Early Childhood Education programs. My love of children has been a lifelong gift, therefore pursuing a degree in Early Childhood Education was an exciting decision I made right out of high school. I began my career in corporate childcare at the Johnson & Johnson Child Development Center. I served as a teacher and administrator as well as Project Coordinator for Resources for Child Care Management, developing corporate child care programs for the J&J system of families. Upon the birth of my second son we moved to Flemington and I became the Director and Head Teacher of St. Magdalen’s Nursery School for 15 years. During those years, I had three more children making me a busy mom of five! In 2011, we transitioned our program from St. Magdalen’s and became First Friends Child Development Center. Our school is designed to be a “treasure” pouring out into the community a variety of programs for children and families of Hunterdon County. I am a constant presence in each class while maintaining my commitment to the mission of the whole school as an onsite Director. While the need for education may be the reason your child and I meet -my deepest desire is that all children that attend our center know they are uniquely made and deeply loved. This is my goal, my objective, my mission. I look forward to working with all the young children and new families becoming a part of First Friends Child Development Center.

Hi, my name is Alicia Tallmadge and I am the First Friends Child Development Center Head Teacher! In 2008, I graduated from Kutztown University with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and also obtained my Middle School Math Certification. Shortly after, I accepted a Kindergarten teaching position at Far Hills Country Day School. After a few years of teaching Kindergarten, I switched positions to a 4th-6th grade Math Teacher. This was a new accelerated class that was being offered and I had the privilege to write the intense and vigorous curriculum for the school . During my years at FHCDS, I was also the Director of the Aftercare Program, which gave me the opportunity to work with several students of all ages. I then left the classroom to be a stay at home mom to Carter (8), Luke (5) and Devin (3). During the hiatus to be home with my three boys, I have continued my practices of teaching by tutoring several students PreK-12th grade and continuing Professional Development. A teacher truly never stops learning! I’ve made many wonderful memories with my boys at home. We enjoy outdoor play, bike rides, going for walks and trips to the beach. In my spare time, I enjoy running, cooking and crossfit. Now that my children are older, I am excited to be back into the classroom where I have always loved to be. As a current parent at the school, I have been able to witness firsthand the outstanding program, curriculum and staff at First Friends. I am dedicated to building a safe, comfortable and stimulating educational environment in the Doves Classroom. This learning environment will be one that is bright, secure and motivating, so that the children are encouraged to achieve their full potential. I could not be more excited to teach your child and all the learning, exploring and fun we get to have!
